Epoxy and other coatings fail early when they're applied over a sealed or contaminated concrete surface. Grinding mechanically opens the pores of the concrete so whatever goes on top actually bonds and lasts, instead of peeling within a year or two.
We check the existing surface for old sealers, coatings, cracks, and overall condition.
The floor is mechanically ground to remove contamination and open the surface profile.
Cracks and joints are noted and addressed as part of prep before coating.
Dust and debris are cleared so the floor is ready for the next step, whether that's epoxy or another coating.
Any concrete floor about to be epoxy coated needs grinding first, especially if it's previously been sealed or painted. It's also useful on its own when a floor needs old coatings or contamination removed before any new finish is decided on.
For a coating that actually bonds and lasts, yes. Skipping proper surface prep is one of the most common reasons epoxy floors fail early.
Grinding does generate dust. We take reasonable steps to manage it during the job.
Grinding can smooth minor high spots and remove surface material, but it isn't a substitute for structural concrete repair on a severely uneven slab.
Yes, removing an old, failing coating and re-profiling the concrete is a common reason to grind before recoating.
